AUDI QUATTRO LWB A2 RALLY 1984 H.MIKKOLA #1 (RALLY SAFARI)

In March 1980 a four-wheel-drive sports coupe was launched on the Audi stand at the Geneva Motor Show. The company's reatest achievement had been to recognize the advantages of all-wheel-drive and then to single-mindedly pursue the necessary technology. The permanent four-wheel-drive system introduced with the Quattro enjoyed worldwide success in motorsport and gradually found its way into the entire Audi model range. The Audi Quattro ceased production in 1992. The die-cast model now being made is the third generation version that was introduced in 1988. The center unit had been replaced by a Torsen differential, locking automatically when conditions warranted without the driver's intervention. The engine was 2.2 liter and fitted with a small K24 water-cooled turbocharger producing 200 bhp and 210 ft-lb of torque. Its top speed was 136 mph. The wheels were 8x15 mounted with 215-50-15 tires. Full digital instrumentation was provided in orange color.
